CANINES
Canines is the newest piece in the Street Tigers series, built around the tiger's traits: sharp teeth, claws, speed, and a quiet, solitary defiance. Like Eyes and Faces before it, it focuses on a body feature, this time the teeth, which run through the piece in snarls and bared expressions.
The roaring tiger is the centre point of the image, surrounded by manga-style panels that each show a different character or moment, like a comic page. A speedometer nods to the tiger's speed, wrecked cars suggest the aftermath, and my favourite car, the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34, is being photographed as a bullet train passes behind.
Like the rest of the series, it draws on Japanese street-racing culture and 90s action films. Every car, face and tiger is drawn one by one, then built up over a photomontage. It's the most refined piece in the series so far, the one I've spent the most time on, and a culmination of everything Street Tigers has built up.
