BOSO

Boso is the fourth work in my series, and the first built around the Bōsōzoku, Japan's "reckless driving" biker subculture, formed in the 1950s and pushed underground by police crackdowns in the 1990s over violence and yakuza ties. The piece is an homage to their imagery: customised bikes and sports cars weave through a dense city backdrop, while figures in leather and workwear carry themselves with a hardened, unbothered attitude, including a bare-chested woman at the centre who embodies the bold, tough femininity often pictured in Bōsōzoku archive photography.

All visuals were drawn by me, based on real reference material inspired by the subculture.
